NIDA Advances International Collaboration and Best Practices for SDG Implementation through Policy and Research Partnerships

In advancing international collaboration and best practices for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), NIDA has played a key role in two landmark initiatives that exemplify Thailand’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking and cross-sectoral partnership.

The first initiative, Thailand’s SDG Provincial Profiles, was jointly launched by the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Ministry of Interior (MOI), with academic contributions from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) and the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI). The project marks a major milestone in aligning local development with the global SDG framework. Covering 15 provinces across the country, each SDG Profile—developed through open data and multi-stakeholder consultations, serves as a strategic tool for planning and monitoring sustainable development. The launch event, held at the UN Conference Centre, gathered over 400 representatives from government agencies, the private sector, academia, and civil society, reaffirming Thailand’s collective commitment to “Change for Good.”

Complementing these efforts, the Health, Aging, and Retirement in Thailand (HART) Project, led by NIDA’s Center for Applied Social Research (CASR), continues to strengthen Thailand’s readiness for an aging society through longitudinal research and international cooperation. Established in 2009 with support from the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), the project collaborates with regional universities and global networks to inform active aging policies. As part of the Global Health and Retirement Study Network, HART also aligns with the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI) and the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), advancing Thailand’s leadership in research-based policy development and sustainable well-being for older adults.

Together, these initiatives highlight NIDA’s role in translating international collaboration into practical frameworks and data-driven models that advance SDG implementation and strengthen Thailand’s contribution to global sustainable development.
