NIDA Promotes Arts and Cultural Heritage through Creative Performances and Community Engagement

            In 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) actively contributed to local arts through more than 17 annual public performances, including music, dance, and theatre by students, staff, and alumni. Key events such as Chinese New Year 2024, Songkran Festival, ECON Reborn Party, Harmony of Loy Krathong, and NIDA Open House featured Thai classical and folk dances, live concerts, and creative stage shows. Traditional performances like Khon and Manohra were also showcased during international conferences, promoting cultural preservation and exchange. Additionally, musical and artistic activities were integrated into community outreach, academic ceremonies, and alumni events. These performances demonstrate NIDA’s strong commitment to fostering creativity, cultural engagement, and heritage appreciation in alignment with SDG 11.2.5 – Arts and heritage contribution.

Chinese New Year 2024

            On February 7, 2024, the ICO NIDA International College organized the “Chinese New Year Celebration 2024: Year of the Dragon” at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA). The event aimed to celebrate the Chinese New Year while promoting cross-cultural exchange and appreciation of traditional arts among Thai and international students.
            The celebration featured a variety of cultural performances, including traditional Chinese dance, music, and festive greetings such as “恭喜发财” (Gōngxǐ fācái), meaning “Wishing you prosperity.” Students actively participated in performing and showcasing their artistic talents, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere that reflected both joy and cultural harmony.
            This activity highlights NIDA’s contribution to the promotion of local and international arts, in line with SDG 11.2.5 – Arts and heritage contribution. The event demonstrates the university’s commitment to fostering cultural diversity and encouraging artistic expression through public performances that strengthen community engagement within and beyond the campus.

ECON Reborn Party

            On February 17, 2024, the Graduate School of Development Economics, together with the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Economics and Development, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), organized the event “ECON Reborn Party 2024” at NIDA.
            The celebration began with a special musical performance by students from the Financial Engineering Program (Batch 5) under the band name Monance, a joint program between NIDA’s Faculty of Economics and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. This was followed by a musical theatre performance titled “Too Much, So Much, Very Much” by undergraduate students from the Business Economics and Financial Economics programs, offering humor and joy to the audience.The third performance, “Granny VS RSV Concert”, featured faculty members who showcased their hidden artistic talents through an engaging and entertaining performance, highlighting the creativity and camaraderie within the faculty.

            On March 2, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized the community outreach activity “Music and Learning Support for Youth” at Phaiwan Wittayakhom School, Phitsanulok Province. The event aimed to contribute to community development and youth empowerment through art and education, in line with NIDA’s mission to foster sustainable social development.
            During the activity, NIDA representatives donated musical instruments, educational materials, and snacks to the students, encouraging creative learning and promoting artistic expression through music. The initiative also aimed to inspire students to appreciate the value of art as a means of communication and community connection.

            On March 30, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), in collaboration with NIDA Alumni of Nakhon Ratchasima (MPA and MPPM programs), organized the event “NIDA Alumni Reunion: United for Sustainable Development” at the Sikhio Education Center, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The event was led by Col. Sathit Oonkai, President of the NIDA Korat Alumni Association, and officially opened by Professor Dr. Thipawan Lorsuwannarat, President of NIDA.
            The gathering brought together over 600 alumni and participants who joined to strengthen the alumni network and promote lifelong learning and community development. The event featured a series of cultural and artistic performances, including a live music performance by the 21st Military Circle Band and a traditional Thai dance show, where performers dressed in Thai costumes gracefully performed to traditional rhythms. These performances showcased the richness of Thai art and culture, enhancing the celebratory and unifying atmosphere of the event.

            On April 11, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized the “Songkran Festival 2024” at the His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary Auditorium. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Thipawan Lorsuwannarat, President of NIDA, who delivered an opening speech and extended festive greetings to students, faculty, and staff in celebration of the Thai New Year.
            The festival featured public cultural performances, including traditional Thai dance, Thai music performances, and cultural costume displays, showcasing the beauty of Thai arts and traditions. Participants, both Thai and international students, dressed in traditional attire and colorful floral shirts, joined in celebrating and learning about the rich heritage of Thai culture in a joyful and inclusive atmosphere.
            Additional activities included Buddha water pouring for blessings, water-pouring rituals for senior faculty members, fun games with prizes, and the charity activity “Sharing Kindness for Sweet Dreams” organized by the NIDA Staff Council.

            On April 20, 2024, doctoral students from the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Public Administration at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized the “Thai Doctoral Students’ Senior-Junior Bonding and Water Blessing Ceremony 2024”. The event aimed to strengthen relationships between senior and junior students while honoring Thai traditions and fostering a sense of community within the program.
            The ceremony included a water blessing ritual for senior faculty members to wish students prosperity and good fortune. The event also featured traditional Thai cultural performances, including long drum performances and Thai classical dance, with performers dressed in elegant traditional costumes. These performances highlighted Thai artistic heritage, allowing students and participants to experience and appreciate the richness of local arts firsthand.

            On June 13, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), through its International Affairs Division, Office of International Relations and Organizational Communication, organized the “21st Century Silk Road International Collaborative Learning Program (Thailand–China)” as part of the week-long program held from June 12–18, 2024.
            In the morning, Professor Dr. Thipawan Lorsuwannarat, President of NIDA, presided over the opening ceremony, which included introductions to the faculties, offices, and centers of NIDA, followed by a guided tour of the institute and a luncheon with university executives. In the evening, Professor Dr. Thipawan also presided over the welcome reception at the Hall of Honor, 1st Floor, Siam Boromrajakumari Building, welcoming 45 participants from China and Thailand.
            A highlight of the event was the performance of Khon, Thailand’s classical masked dance-drama that integrates intricate dance, acting, and combat sequences, accompanied by elaborate costumes and traditional masks. Additionally, there were Thai classical dance performances, showcasing Thailand’s rich artistic heritage. These performances were designed to entertain, promote cultural appreciation, and preserve and disseminate the unique identity of Thai performing arts.

            On July 8, 2024, the School of Development Economics, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized the “Orientation and Preparation Program for Undergraduate-Master’s Degree Students in Financial Engineering and Engineering Management & Entrepreneurship (International Program)” and the “Orientation for Master of Science in Financial Engineering (Regular Program)” at the Student Activity Room, 14th Floor, School of Development Economics.
            The event included an introduction to the program and academic guidelines, followed by a campus tour where students visited key facilities such as the library, museum, and music rehearsal room. Students were also given the opportunity to experience and play musical instruments, fostering creativity, collaboration, and appreciation for the arts.

            On July 10, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized “NIDA OPEN HOUSE 2024” at the Chira Boonmak Auditorium, welcoming students, parents, and the public interested in graduate studies.
            Professor Dr. Tipawan Lorsuwannarat, NIDA President, presided over the opening ceremony, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sombat Kusumavalee, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs, gave the opening remarks.
            The event began with an energetic opening performance “NIDA: Lovely and Learnable” by NIDA students and staff, combining music, dance, and drama to express creativity and university spirit. Activities throughout the day included alumni talks, AI and digital media workshops, and academic program showcases from all faculties and the college.

“นิด้า” จัดเวที Conference ระดับนานาชาติ 3rd NIC – NIDA Conference, 2024

            On August 22–23, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), in collaboration with East China Normal University (ECNU), held the 3rd NIC – NIDA Conference 2024 under the theme “Redesigning Our Common Future for Sustainable Transformation” at the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Celebration Auditorium, NIDA, Bangkok.
            The opening ceremony on August 22 was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Juree Vichit-Vadakan, Chairperson of the NIDA Council, and opened by Prof. Dr. Thipawan Lorsuwannarat, NIDA President. The conference gathered renowned keynote speakers, scholars, and researchers from Thailand and abroad to exchange knowledge and promote sustainable development.
            A highlight was the Manohra (Nora) dance, a Southern Thai traditional performance combining graceful movements, live verse singing, and colorful costumes—showcasing Thailand’s cultural heritage.

            On September 25, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized the Annual Retirement Appreciation Ceremony 2024, under the theme “Weaving Bonds of Heartfelt Connections”, at the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Celebration Auditorium from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event honored eight retirees and recognized two professors who will continue their service, expressing gratitude for their dedication and valuable contributions to the university.
            The celebration featured musical performances and live shows by faculty members, staff, and alumni, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere while fostering appreciation for Thai music and culture.             These artistic performances not only strengthened the NIDA community spirit but also showcased the university’s support for local arts and cultural continuity, in alignment with SDG 11.2.5 Arts and heritage contribution, which promotes universities’ contribution to the arts through public performances and creative engagement.

‘นิด้า’ เปิดศูนย์สีคิ้ว จัดฉายภาพยนตร์สั้น (CCCL Film Tour) เสริมการเรียนรู้ – สร้างผู้นำทางด้านการสื่อสารวิกฤตการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ

            On October 5–6, 2024, the Research Center of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), in collaboration with the Rak Lok Foundation and GYBN Thailand, organized the CCCL Film Tour: Short Film Screening and Climate Change Communication Leadership Workshop at NIDA Sikhio Educational Center, Nakhon Ratchasima. The event was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Patthareeya Lakpetch, Director of the NIDA Research Center, who also presented certificates to the participants.
            The two-day event featured interactive sessions such as “Climate Storytelling” and “Systems Thinking”, along with a short film screening that integrated art and education to inspire youth engagement with environmental issues. Students from NIDA, Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, and Suranaree University of Technology—a total of 25 participants—took part in film-based activities designed to enhance leadership and communication skills related to the climate crisis.
            Through film performances and creative storytelling, this event not only raised awareness of sustainable environmental practices but also fostered youth creativity in artistic expression.             On November 11, 2024, the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), in collaboration with the NIDA Student Union, organized the vibrant cultural event “Harmony of Loy Krathong” at the NIDA campus. The celebration brought together Thai and international students, faculty members, and staff to experience one of Thailand’s most cherished traditions through music, games, and artistic performances.
            The event featured live music performances, Thai folk songs, and interactive games, allowing participants to immerse themselves in Thai culture while enjoying traditional Thai desserts and the symbolic act of floating Krathongs to express gratitude and make wishes for good fortune. More than 150 prizes were given to attendees, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity among the diverse NIDA community.

            On November 30, 2024, the School of Law, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), hosted its 15th Anniversary Celebration at the His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Celebration Auditorium. The evening event, themed “15 Years of NIDAPAT: Prom Night,” brought together current students, alumni, faculty, and staff in a warm and joyous reunion atmosphere.
            The celebration opened with remarks from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amornrat Kulsudjarit, Dean of the School of Law, highlighting the School’s achievements and sustainable vision for the future. The event was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Tippawan Lorsuwannarat, NIDA President, and Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, former NIDA President and founding dean of the Law School, who delivered congratulatory speeches.

            On December 21–22, 2024, the Graduate School of Business Administration (NIDA Business School), in collaboration with the BBA 2509 Foundation and the Business School Alumni Association, organized the New Student Orientation for the 2nd Semester of Academic Year 2024 at Royal Hills Golf Resort and Spa, Nakhon Nayok Province.
            The event began with a warm welcoming speech and inspirational guidance from faculty members, followed by sharing experiences and career insights from alumni representatives. Beyond academic and networking activities, the highlight of the evening featured live musical performances and singing sessions by students and alumni, fostering creativity and strengthening bonds among participants.

            On Monday, December 23, 2024, the International Affairs Division, Office of International Affairs and Corporate Communication, NIDA, organized “Holly Jolly: Celebrate the Christmas Spirit Around the World” at Room 805, 8th Floor, Narathip Phongpraphan Building. The event aimed to promote cross-cultural understanding and foster friendship among faculty members, staff, international students, and Thai students in English and international programs.
            The celebration featured a lively atmosphere with Christmas music performances, singing, and dance shows presented by students from various faculties, reflecting creativity and appreciation for the performing arts. Participants also shared insights about Christmas celebrations from different countries, including Thailand, China, and Nepal, promoting cultural diversity and mutual learning.
            With 63 attendees, the event successfully created an inclusive and joyful environment while highlighting NIDA’s role in encouraging artistic expression and intercultural exchange.             On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the School of Environmental Development Administration, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) organized the event “Three Decades of Environmental Management at NIDA: A Decade of the School of Environmental Development Administration”. The celebration took place at Room 202, 2nd Floor, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building, and was also streamed live via MS Teams and Facebook Live.
            The afternoon session featured an academic seminar under the theme “Learning from the Past, Building the Future: Environmental Management and Sustainability”, which brought together discussions on sustainable development practices and future directions.
Adding a cultural dimension to the event, faculty members and staff performed traditional Thai music, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere that reflected the harmony between academic excellence and cultural appreciation.
