Kulayada Jampunyakul (Alumni, Graduate School of Communication Arts and Management Innovation, Special Program, #12)

Since post-graduate studies are not just application and graduation, in order to succeed, you must devote your physical strength like dragging yourself out of bed or pulling yourself off your desk from a long at work to get to class. This requires both physical and mental devotion and commitment. So are you ready for this?
Often times, we hear questions from friends and family about what it’s like to continue your studies; whether it’s worth the effort; or what field of study we should choose. The resounding answer usually is what do you want to study? This answer normally stumbles the inquirer, but the truth is you must answer the following questions 1) what would you like to study? 2) what do you study for? 3) what benefits would you get? And finally, 4) are you ready to compartmentalize your time for graduate study? If today you still cannot see yourself enrolling in a graduate program, this article would like to share with you a personal viewpoint about getting a graduate degree and whether or not it is worth your time.

Benefits of master’s degree: is it necessary?
Answer: whether or not you will benefit from a master’s degree depends on how you see yourself in the future. If you view a graduate degree as a door opening up to more opportunities and new experiences or you want to build on your knowledge, then it will be the right decision for you. Graduate programs offer you a new social circle where everyone in class will be ready to learn and share. It is a society in which people come to exchange experiences. If your classmates are someone with work experience, you will learn of their organization, how it operates, and how the thinking and decision-making process works. You will also have opportunities to share your own experiences helping you to be more confident. In each class, the teacher or lecturer assimilates the knowledge and information with organizational and learning culture. Perhaps, the answer to your job might just lie in those graduate school classes.

Is a master’s degree worth your time and money? I’m afraid I won’t be able to graduate.
Answer: every change brings about a good thing. And everything has its pros and cons. I wish for everyone who is hesitant about continuing your study to have faith and to believe in yourself that you can do it. You will see the outcome. Just like a saying that goes “everything happens for a reason,” everything has its own logic. During your graduate school journey, you may experience exhaustion, you may question yourself, or you keep asking yourself what I’m doing and whether I’m doing the right thing. Believe me, the end result will be worth waiting for and worth your perseverance one way or another.
Finally, I’d like to convey a message to those who dream of continuing their study for a master’s or doctoral degrees. Whatever decision you make or what change you would like to make, try to review your thoughts, your desire for a graduate degree, and your feelings toward it. Always ask yourself “are you ready for the change that will bring experience and positive outcomes to your life because the journey to the end requires physical and mental strength, but you can use it to overcome any struggles you may have or encounter. I wish you accomplish the outcome that you’re hoping for.
