NIDA Visits Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Spain, to Explore Research Collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Advance Academic and Technological Excellence

On November 5, 2025, Professor Dr. Tippawan Lorsuwannarat, President of NIDA; Associate Professor Dr. Sarawut Jansuwan, Vice President for Administration and Digital Technology; Assistant Professor Dr. Akkaranan Pongsathornwiwat, Director of the Office of Digital Technology and Information; and Assistant Professor Dr. Tanasai Sukhonphan, Program Director of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS), Graduate School of Applied Statistics, visited the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) Spain.

The BSC is a high-performance computing (HPC) center that is currently hosting the MareNostrum system, the most powerful in Europe, which is currently being used for AI processing by leading research institutions worldwide. Dr. Fabrizio Gagliardi, Head of International Partnerships, greeted the delegation and engaged in discussions regarding potential opportunities for academic and research collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI).

These discussions included the potential for joint AI research and advanced technology learning for the Institute’s faculty and researchers in the future. The party was also guided by Dr. Gagliardi on a tour of the MareNostrum system and the quantum computing facilities located at the center.
