While it may be true that if you are not picky, you will not be poor. If we can choose what kind of job we would like to have, we would choose the one that fits our field of study with good compensation, good work environment, good fringe benefits, and job security. If you are deciding whether you should go for the private sector due to its higher pay, let’s read on about information on government jobs in the higher education institutions.
The name National Institute of Development Administration or NIDA might sound like a private entity, but in fact we are an autonomous institute established since April 1, 1966. We are an institution at a graduate level offering only master’s and doctoral degrees. Currently, the legal status of Thailand’s public universities has transformed from government agency into autonomous universities since April 16, 2019. If remaining as a government agency, our monthly salary would not have been enough in today’s economy in which a cup of coffee costs 100 baht and a simple rice meal costs 50 baht.
For compensation under this new status of an autonomous university, NIDA provides a competitive pay, compared to other government agencies. Within the same educational sector, NIDA’s employees have a good compensation package including fringe benefits in addition to monthly salary. For instance, with the same title for a bachelor’s degree between government agency and NIDA, for the position of general officer at the operational level, government employees receive a monthly salary of 18,000 baht, while NIDA employees receive 19,500 baht. Moreover, other fringe benefits include group health insurance, provident fund, healthcare services, savings cooperative, and educational funds for post-graduate studies. In addition, NIDA offers a career path and growth based on systematic performance assessments and continuing training. These are only basic information for your consideration. With NIDA’s new motto “Wisdom for Sustainable Development,” this could be the beginning of your journey. With this first small step, if on a strong and solid foundation, you can achieve your goals and career security.
