BCG Series EP:13 GROUNDBREAKING TOURISM LEADER TALKS BCG, Andaman Discoveries

Bodhi Garrett could have died in the Asian tsunami of 2004 when the 30-foot-high waves destroyed the bungalow where he lived in southern Thailand. By luck, he was back in the United States for his Christmas holiday. Upon returning to Thailand, he started the North Andaman Tsunami Relief fund to help local and foreign friends who lost their livelihoods and loved ones in the tsunami. Thanks to the revelation he had that tourism could be a positive force for change and a decent income-earner for small communities, the relief fund morphed into Andaman Discoveries. In the field of community-based tourism, the company has been a groundbreaker, winning multiple awards across the world for its approach to sustainable travel and empowering local communities. Bodhi answered these questions via email on the BCG strategy and future of Thai tourism.
