Abstract

Organizational Commitment of Officer in Eastern Region City Municipality

This research is a study on the commitment of officers in municipalities of the Eastern Region of Thailand. 
The research objective is to
1) study levels of the commitment of officers in municipalities of the Eastern Region of Thailand;
2) to study factors affecting the commitment of officers in municipalities of the Eastern Region of Thailand; and
3) to develop a model on the commitment of officers in municipalities of the Eastern Region of Thailand.

This study is a quantitative research. Executives were interviewed by using semi-structured interview technique. The samples are 335 officers in Chaoprayasurasak City Municipality, Laemchabang City Municipality, and Rayong City Municipality accounting for 85.89 percent of the total distributed questionnaires.

The data collection tool is questionnaire on cultural organization, working motivations, quality of working life, satisfaction in working, and organizational commitment. Data was analyzed by SPSS. Descriptive statistics were generated using SPSS; causal modeling involved in the use of LISREL.

The major results indicats that:

1) Officers in municipalities of the Eastern Region of Thailand have commitment on organization in trust and an acceptance on organizational goals, and commitment on organization in devotion for organizational success are high. Commitment on organization in intention to retain organizational membership is low.

2) Factors affecting commitment on organizations are organizational cultures (TE=.54), satisfaction in working (TE=.31), quality of working life (TE=.22), and working motivations respectively (TE=.21). Each factor influences commitment on organizations at .01.

3) The proposed model is consistent with the empirical data in good fit (χ2/df = 1.31, CFI = .99, RFI = .98, SRMR = .03, RMSEA = .03, GFI = .97 and AGFI = .95). The variables in the proposed model accounted for 70 percent of the total variance of organizational commitment.
