Abstract

The Royal Thai Army Forces are one of the important human resource groups affecting national security. Quality of work-life of these personnel is important to their work effectiveness. This correlational-comparative study aimed at investigating antecedent model of quality of work-life of the Royal Thai Army Forces. Samples are The Thai Royal Army Forces in headquarter and other provinces. Purposive quota random sampling was employed to obtain the total sample of 404 personnel. Most of them were male with the average age of 40 years, and the average duration in duty of 17.5 years.

The results revealed that 1) quality of work-life consisted of 2 factors, namely, favorable attitude towards work, and job stress. Favorable attitude towards work was the most important factor. 2) situation consisted of 2 factors, namely, supervisory social support, and organizational support. The most important factor was organizational support. 3) psychological trait consisted of 3 factors, namely, future orientation and self-control, core self-evaluation, and psychological sufficiency. It was found that future orientation and self-control was the most important factor.

For structural model, it was found that 1) quality of work-life was directly affected by psychological trait and situation, which, totally, could explain the variance of quality of work-life with 0.99. 2) situation was directly affected by psychological trait, with the predictive of 0.23. 3) psychological trait indirectly affected quality of work-life via situation.

The findings from this study suggested that 1) favorable attitude towards work was more important factor of quality of work-life than job stress. 2) perceived caring, recognizing, and supporting from organization was the important situational type affecting quality of work-life. 3) Future orientation and self-control was the most important factor affecting both situation and quality of work-life. 4) Psychological sufficiency based on The Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy was also important to quality of work-life.

Suggestions based on this study were 1) in order to enhance quality of work-life for these personnel, 3 psychological trait should be trained, consecutively, future orientation and self-control, core self-evaluation, and psychological sufficiency. 2) The Royal Thai Army should pay attention to well-being, as well as recognize the effective personnel in order to increase favorable attitude towards work, and reduce job stress.
