Abstract

The purposes of this research were to examine the relationships between information seeking, uncertainty, the Facebook intrusion and the jealousy of Facebook users; and to identify factor predicting the user’s jealousy in context of Facebook. Quantitative research was employed in this study. Online questionnaires were distributed to 400 respondents who were Facebook users aged between 25 and 34 years old and reported having a relationship. The finding demonstrated that women perform more intrusive behavior and access to Facebook jealousy than men. Respondents who were above 26 years old tended to be jealousy than those above 33 years old. Respondents with undergraduate studies, master’s degree and doctorate assessed performance frequencies of intrusive behavior more than others. Students and Business owners performed intrusive behavior and access to Facebook jealousy than other job. Those who were still single have more partner uncertainty than the other group, and prefer to use the passive strategy for seeking the information about their partner. Respondents who showed “In a relationship” status on Facebook were likely to be more jealousy and used all strategies of information seeking than other groups. Moreover, the findings indicated that there were statistically relationship between information seeking, uncertainty, the Facebook intrusion and jealousy at .05 significance levels. The effective factors that could predict the user’s jealousy in context of Facebook included information seeking, the Facebook intrusion and uncertainty. In conclusion, the effective of information in context of Facebook that performed highly level of emotional jealousy were as follows: (1) seeing their partner post pictures with his /her previous partner on Facebook. (2) Perceived their partner block or limited them to access his/her profile. (3) knowing their partner already add his/her old lover as a Facebook’s friend (4) seeing their partner embrace the shoulders with unknown opposite sex on his/her photo post.
