The objectives of thisresearch study were to investigate the utilization patterns of the elderly’s communication technology uses, to discover both internal and external factors affecting on such uses and to find the effects caused by the uses of the mentioned communication technology in their daily life. This research was conducted by means of quantitative research method using a focus group discussion and in-depth interview methods to collect data from a group of 35 “Digital-minded elderly” informants who were selected from a factor analysis in a quantitative research method. The findings can be summarized as follows: Firstly, there were 4 utilization patterns of the elderly’s communication technology uses, viz. to make themselves look up-to-date, to improve their potential, to interact with family members and friends, and to pass their leisure time after work. Secondly, there were 4 internal and 1 external factors affecting their uses of communication technology, viz. their former skills and experiences in using the communication technology, the ways of making use their sought information for health and mind, their anxiety about financial transactions, their ability to modify communication technology tools to fit most their taste and lifestyle, and the influences from their close relatives and friends who used them. Finally, there were 3 aspects of effects caused by the uses of the mentioned communication technology in their daily life, viz. their knowledge from information seeking, their capacity realization resulted from learning and their social relationships with family members and friends.
