Abstract

The Objectives of this research are 1) To study cruise passenger’s behavior 2) To evaluate performance of Laem Chanbang’s port of call management for cruise tourism 3) To guidelines for Developing Cruise Port Management of Cruise Tourism in Thailand. The study using mixed research methodology. The quantitative data were collected by using the questionnaire from 400 cruise passenger. In term of qualitative data were collected by semi-structure interview from 36 relevant cruise stakeholders. This research applies Importance-Performance analysis (IPA) through cruise passenger’s expectation and satisfaction by 32 variables from 8 factors are 1) Port characteristic: port infrastructure and port facilities, services, cruise tourism policy and regulations, tourism attraction, tourism activities, accessibility and connection, amenity on shore. The statistical and data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics included frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation (SD), t-test, ANOVA and measuring IPA of cruise port management by using GAP analysis and using thematic analysis for qualitative data. The result of this study founded data on the IPA grid presentation and plotted into four quadrants according to the mean scores. 11 variables in “Possible overkill” are port geographic, connectivity with other major ports, weather and sea condition, tourist guide, communication skills of other service providers, unique of tourist attractions, variety of tourism activities, attractiveness of tourism activities, value for money of tourism activities, restaurants and shopping. 6 variables into “Low Priority” tourist information, baggage services, currency exchange service, souvenir shop and accommodation. 6 variables in “Keep up the good work” shore excursion management, immigration formality and customs regulation process, safety and security management, hygiene and sanitation, attractive of tourism attractions, unique of tourist attractions and 10 variables in “Concentrate here” port infrastructure, public utility, port facilities, capacity for handing a number of cruise passenger and large cruise ships, emergency plan, accessibility from port to town, accessibility from port to major attraction, connection between tourist attraction and taxi/bus/public transportation services. According to the study lead to recommendations to improve guideline for developing cruise port management for cruise tourism in Thailand as follow 1) Develop infrastructure and facilities 2) Improve and develop accessibility and connectivity 3) Enhance services efficiency 4) Empower tourism attraction and tourism activities 5) Develop skills and capabilities of service provider 6) integrated port management 7) Promoting cruise tourism in Thailand.
