Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of Facebook group message to
reducescreen-based sedentary behavior;and increaselight physicalactivity,attitude, perceived self-efficacy
toward break time and perceived self-efficacy to increase light physical activity. A randomized control trial
wasemployed inthis study. Office workers wererandomlyassigned toeitheracontrol group oratreatment
group. General healthy tips messages were sent to the control group everyday, whereas four types of
messages including threat, effectiveness, social persuasion and mastery experience were sent to the
treatmentgroup threetimesa day. A statisticalmethod was performed using Analysisof Covariance(ANCOVA).
The finding showed that screen-based sedentary behavior significantly decreased among the treatment
group (p < 0.01). Moreover,attitude, perceived self-efficacytoward a break time,and perceived self-efficacy toincrease light physical activities increased among the treatment group (p < 0.05). However, there wasno significant difference betweenthetreatment and thecontrol groupsonthelight physical activity (p > 0.05)
