Established on April 1, 1966, NIDA is an institution for higher education under the Office of Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education. At its infancy, NIDA received initial help from the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, Department of International Affairs, Ford Foundation, and Midwest University Consortium for International Affairs (MUCIA), acquiring a portion of educating and training programs from Office of National Economic and Social Development.
History of NIDA
The first decade had seen the establishment
of NIDA with a great new hope. With support from
NIDA’s founding members who at the time held
critical roles in the Royal Thai government and
national development, NIDA began its focus on continuous learning and development, impressively building an inspiring arsenal of academic programs
and services for high-ranking public officials
in various sectors, as well as providing
consultancy for public projects.
The period of second decade for NIDA had
gone through a challenging transformation
from the conventional society to the new
technological one. NIDA during this time period
delivered an integrated branch of sciences,
building an interconnected web of knowledge
and disseminating onto the communities.
NIDA readily stepped into the era of globalization
and development of information technology.
Social Development
With this decade experiencing an astounding rate
of globalized world, NIDA developed a system
of information technology to respond to
such rapid changes and played a critical role
in educating and training human resources
from both public and private sectors.
Global Standards
Thailand in this decade had encountered an
economic crisis so significant that the country
had to make drastic changes and constituted
reforms in order to move forward. NIDA took
the leading role of innovative thinker and devised
new courses and programs for higher education
based on such concepts as Sufficiency Economy
in order to prepare for Thailand’s future endeavors.
This time period had seen the region of
Southeast Asia experiencing a dramatic economic
change as the region entered into the
ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
Under this new frontier, NIDA instituted a new value
“Wisdom for Change” in order to reflect our role
as a change agent within Thai society. With our
vision for national development, NIDA further
invested in higher learning and high-impact research.
International Stage
With the multi-faceted technological
advancement in every sector of society, the world
has waded into the ever-changing and unpredictable
territory of this new world landscape. NIDA has
therefore elevated its academic standards to
become an international institute and adapted
its organization and management to respond
to these new changes, as well as fostering highly
competent and skilled human resources for the
development of the country.
